Open My Heart to What You Know

Last Wednesday, my kids virtual Bible class talked about Jacob, Leah and Rachel. Jacob loved Rachel and saw her as beautiful with a love story for the ages. Until Leah, who was described as plain and if not unloved, was overlooked at best, was the bride who woke up to a disappointed husband on the first day of their honeymoon and wrecked Jacob & Rachel's happily ever after.

However, God's promise of a Savior through Jacob's family was actually delivered through Leah, not Rachel. Our vision, perspective, and values don't always line up with God's. We talked about using God's word to adjust our eyesight just like the optometrist uses small adjustments until we see 20/20.
So we can see the world and people the same way Jesus did.

This simple little song I learned years ago, has been going through my mind ever since that Bible class.

Lyrics:
Open my heart to what you know
So I can stretch, so I can grow
My feelings toss me to and fro
Open my heart to what you know

Open my eyes to what you see
To understand what I should be
My feelings get the best of me
Open my eyes to what you see

Open my ears to what you hear
So I can keep you very near
My feelings make it so unclear
Open my ears to what you hear

Open my heart to what you know
So I can stretch, so I can grow
My feelings toss me to and fro
Open my heart to what you know
Open my heart to what you know

If you've never heard it, it's worth a listen:
